The reverted borders are decorated with alternating precious objects and floral cartouches, while the reverse shows three floral sprays and an underglaze blue fang ding mark. The central medallion, enclosed by two double red circles, depicts a man on horseback accompanied by his servant, with a stately manor partially visible in the background, a surrounding fence, and precious objects displayed on a table and floating above. This scene illustrates the arrival of Zhang and his servant at the monastery from Romance of the Western Chamber (see p. 90 in Famille Verte: Chinese Porcelain in Green Enamels by Christiaan J.A. Jörg). Minor edge chips and a 4 cm faint hairline extending from the rim; otherwise in very good vintage condition. plates in similar conditions sold at Christie’s New York and Carlo Bonte Belgium.
