A finely potted Ming Dynasty porcelain dish, decorated in polychrome enamels. The central roundel is painted with two birds perched in a flowering tree, surrounded by peony blooms. The birds and flowers theme symbolizes harmony and conjugal happiness in Chinese decorative tradition. The cavetto is encircled by a wide border of phoenixes in flight among undulating red scrollwork and stylized foliage, reinforcing auspicious connotations. The underside bears a six-character Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi mark within double circles in underglaze blue. While marked for the Chenghua period (1465–1487), the piece is likely from the Wanli period, following the established tradition of apocryphal reign marks.
